There is a reason why bonefishing is rapidly re-gaining popularity these years. Bonefish has been described as an honest fish, that willingly collaborates and makes great fly fishing experiences. Some say bonefishing is the trout fishing of saltwater, and quite a few prominent anglers have stated, that if they had to make the hard choice and pick just one single species for their fly fishing – it had to be bonefish.
You’re welcome to join us for our bonefish trip to lovely Acklins Island in the Bahamas. The trip is part of our From Vise to Water concept — connecting fly tyers and anglers with the waters that inspire our craft.
The bonefish trip runs from Saturday April 24 to Wednesday May 5, 2027. These dates are arrival on and departure from Acklins Island, so you need to calculate some travel time for your international flights.
You’ll be fishing for 10 days on the endless white flats of Acklins Island – a perfect location for both the newcomer and the bonefish aficionado to experience bonefishing. You’ll be staying with us at the legendary Grey’s Point Bonefish Inn, which by far offers the best possible location on the island for bonefishing. On calm days you’ll be able to spot bonefish from the veranda of the lodge, and it’s common that early birds have been catching bonefish before breakfast is served. You can spend days just investigating the backyard area of the lodge.
We do most of our bonefishing wading on our own. We’ve collected decades of experience, and we offer detailed maps of wonderful bonefish spots around the island. We access the flats by canoes or do short walks from where we leave our cars.
However, Acklins Island offer a lot more fly fishing species than bonefish. Barracuda, permit, tarpon, jacks and snappers just to name a few. We recommend booking a professional guide with a skiff to go look for permit and tarpon during your stay. If you are new to saltwater fishing, you might also enjoy the comfort of bonefishing with a guide. We usually plan the guided fishing ahead of our trip.
Your Ahrex host is Søren Flarup, who has many years of saltwater experience. Søren has been with Ahrex since the very beginning, and he has designed many of our favorite Ahrex saltwater fly hooks.
Before departure, we meet online for a gear-intro session and a relaxed fly-tying evening. That way, when we finally meet in the Bahamas, everyone already feels connected, prepared and part of the same crew.
