We’re usually not slow to let you know abut new hooks, but it seems that other blog subject have been more important, because we actually snuck in a new hook in the Predator series. It’s getting cold and once in a while, especially as it gets even colder, you sometimes need to pick up the fish on the bottom. On the bottom there’s usually a lot of debris, so fishing an upside-down hook can be a very good idea.
Perch Jigs tied by Søren Flarup on the PR376 # 10 and # 1.
Our new Ahrex PR376 90 Degree Aberdeen Jig is exactly that – a classic jig hook with a 90 degree up bent eye. When the eye is turned up as far as 90 degrees, you ensure that the hook turns up side down with every puck of the line. The hook is similar to out PR 374 that some of you might know, but the hook wire is slightly thinner. That makes the hook more suitable for smaller sizes. The PR 374 comes in size 4/0 – 4 and with an overlap, the PR 376 takes over and is available in size 1 – 12.
This isn’t the reinvention of the wheel, but an addition to make a classic, Aberdeen style jig hook available in the smaller sizes as well.
We have dedicated jig hooks in the Salt series as well – the SA 254 Salt Jig with A-Steel coating and in the FW series we also have the FW 550 Mini Jig and the FW 554 CZ mini Jig.
And we have plenty of other hooks suited for upside down style flies. The NS 150 Curved Shrimp, the SA 250 Shrimp, the SA 258 CA Bendback, so if you’re curious on tying upside down flies, we have the hooks.
