We have made several portraits of cool fly tiers from around the globe, but today let’s dig down in our own home turf. We head up to the Northern part of Jutland to meet Martin Votborg. Martin recently joined a very rare breed: fulltime Danish pro fly tiers. He sure cranks out some really beautiful flies on our hooks, so we decided to take a closer look at the man behind the vice. Hökensås Sportfiske – and the Swedish Sportfiske Mässan show
This coming weekend it is time for another great show. Sportsfiske Mässan is the largest angling show in Sweden, and if you are anywhere nearby, you owe yourself to drop by Elmia in Jönköping March the 17’th to the 19’th. It is an all-round angling fair, so there will be anything from trolling boats to fly fishing tackle. But there will be a lot of fly tying as well. Giovanni De Pace – Italian fly tier with a passion for the salt
It’s always great to connect with cool fly tiers around the globe, and for us at Ahrex Hooks teaming up with a bunch of highly talented Italian guys was a milestone. Today we put the spotlight on one of those guys, Giovanni De Pace. Giovanni ties all kinds of flies, but he is really passionate about streamers and saltwater flies – often combining classic elements with a healthy dose of UV-resin. I’ve had a chat with Giovanni about his take on fly fishing and fly tying.

Meet Andreas Lium – Fly tier, fly fisherman, philosopher and hook nerd
When we design new hooks, we try to do our research up front. That means checking out what’s already on the market? What works great – and what sucks. And how can we improve on already existing designs. And in all these tasks, we try to get the help from creative and innovative fly tiers.

Today we aim the spotlight on Austin Green, a Maryland resident that toggles the balance between being a talented photographer/filmmaker and a fly fisherman with a heavy bias towards large toothy predators. Continue reading “Meet Austin Green – fisherman, photographer, cinematographer and guide”
