At Ahrex Hooks, fly fishing has always been about more than products. It’s the time spent by the water, the quiet moments before a take, the creativity at the vise, and the simple joy of fishing a fly you tied yourself.
That passion is the foundation of our new concept: From Vise to Water.
It’s our way of taking the craft from the tying desk all the way to the rivers that inspires what we do — turning ideas into experiences, and patterns into memories.
Why Gaula?
Our first journey takes us to the legendary Gaula River in Norway, one of the most iconic salmon rivers in the world. Gaula has a raw energy, a rich history, and a character that makes every cast feel meaningful.
We’ve partnered with the Norwegian Flyfishers Club (NFC) to give access to some of the very best water on the river. NFC uses a structured rotation system: two anglers per beat, changing every six hours. It’s fair, balanced, and one of the best ways to experience Gaula’s many moods and challenges.

For years, anglers and fly tyers have asked us:

Yes – it would. And now we’re making it happen.
We’re creating these journeys for three simple reasons:

Ahrex on Every Trip – Experiences Shared, Stories Carried Forward
Every trip will always include one of us from Ahrex as the trip leader. We believe that great moments are meant to be shared — so the memories can live on, be retold, and grow year after year.
Our Gaula adventure is the first journey we’re offering outside Denmark, and we chose Gaula because it provides incredible potential for unforgettable experiences. Through NFC, we gain access to a wide variety of high-quality beats on this remarkable river. Every six hours, we rotate two-and-two to a new stretch. For those six hours, the water is yours — giving you the freedom to plan your approach and fish each beat properly.
And the timing is perfect: late summer often brings opportunities for exciting surface fishing for salmon, adding an extra layer of thrill to the trip.
Before we travel, we’ll host two online events.
The first will cover gear, the river, the beats we’ll fish, fly choices, and practical details.
The second will be a more hands-on tying session — where we tie the flies together.

A small, highly experienced team we know personally, with over 50 years of combined experience in worldwide fly fishing.
