Summer perch – on the surface… and below
Summer fishing for perch is probably what turned a lot of kids into anglers. It can be laid back and just relaxed fun – or you can go all in and really get some cool action on the surface as well as below. Continue reading “Summer perch – on the surface… and below”
Micke Lindström’s flies – and a Danish salmon
A couple of weeks ago we had our Swedish friend Micke Lindström down here in Denmark for a short visit. Micke is, in our opinion, one of the best fly fishermen on the planet. He is also a very modest guy, so somebody else needed to say that – and I guess I just did. Continue reading “Micke Lindström’s flies – and a Danish salmon”
Meet Brian Ratcliff – Devon based trout fly tier
Ahrex Hooks was born in Denmark, and through social media we initially connected with tiers in Scandinavia. Soon after a lot of American friends joined in – and today we receive feedback and inspiration from tiers in many corners of the world. The Baltic Salmon Fund – new partnership
Spring and early summer marks the start of the Atlantic salmon and sea run brown trout season all over the Northern hemisphere. Anglers return to the same waters to enjoy catching (and maybe releasing) a few of these magnificent fish.
Martin Votborg – Danish pro tier… with a love for river seatrout
We have made several portraits of cool fly tiers from around the globe, but today let’s dig down in our own home turf. We head up to the Northern part of Jutland to meet Martin Votborg. Martin recently joined a very rare breed: fulltime Danish pro fly tiers. He sure cranks out some really beautiful flies on our hooks, so we decided to take a closer look at the man behind the vice. Post spawn pike – needs a slow hand
There’s just something exiting about hunting for predators. As much as I love seeing a trout rise and sip down a tiny mayfly or midge – I can’t help being more wound up when a large predator decides to kill my streamer fly. I guess it’s the violence and brutality of the attack that get my adrenaline pumping… especially when pike fishing. But while part of the season is all jerk, strip, pop and bang – the start of the season might require a less powerful approach. Continue reading “Post spawn pike – needs a slow hand”

Cold Opening Day – in the Danish west coast salmon rivers
Right now the beautiful Atlantic salmon return from the ocean. Large, silver covered, muscle packed and ready for anything we throw at them. Naturally they don’t make their home run to pick a fight – but they don’t back off if you serve up an invitation. Continue reading “Cold Opening Day – in the Danish west coast salmon rivers”
Three ways to go weedless – without sacrificing hook ability
Any angler knows the frustrating truth: The worst predators often choose to hang out in the most dangerous areas. These bad boys, that really want to kill your cute looking streamers, hide in dense weedbeds, sunken timber, under undercut banks, logs or jetties. Places that are notorious fly eaters. Continue reading “Three ways to go weedless – without sacrificing hook ability”
