Another year has gone by. Here at Ahrex Hooks the 2018 season turned out great… starting out with the introduction of the Freshwater series. 3.5 million fly hooks touched down in the headquarter in January, and created a controlled chaos for a couple of weeks. Continue reading “Happy New Year”

Christmas greetings – and a rat’s tale
Another season is slowly transforming from memories and adding another layer of experience. It’s been a strange season on most of the northern hemisphere – with an extreme dry and warm summer. In Scandinavia we had wildfires and rivers running low and way to hot.

2018 is running deep into the backing right now, and today the blog is looking into… well, the blog. This is number 132. We haven’t missed one single Friday since day one. #PlasticInTheBasket – as natural as breathing
Being fly fishermen each and every one of us depends on unspoiled natural resources. The fish we hunt need clean rivers, lakes and oceans – and we sure do as well. Yet each day mankind do a great job of spoiling the planet. I guess many of us do the best we can, to counteract the decline – through river restoration projects, recycling fishing tackle – and trying to make good choices as a consumer and earthling ;0)

Natural beauty – a celebration of fly tying
This week I was working in the studio, shooting photos of some fly tying materials. Looking at the photos afterwards I was really fascinated by the beauty in some of the totally basic materials. The warm glow of golden pheasant tippets and crest, the precise graphic pattern in a grizzly cock neck or the shimmer and sparkle of the casual peacock herl. Plain natural beauty. The places we fish – today… small streams
We usually go into details on this blog. Developing and producing small things… like fly hooks, brings out the nerdy focus on just that: Details. Often we use words like design, point technology, finishes and stuff. Or we discuss tying related details… thread control, deer hair packing or stacking. Fly colour, light and visibility
Today, let’s talk colour. As fly fishermen we are kind of obsessed with colours. We are not any different from guys swinging spoons, spinners and jigs in that regard. But tying your own flies doesn’t make things less complicated. Everybody is searching for that colour combo that is just irresistible to anything with fins. We use as much time talking colours as we do talking weather – and bad excuses for not catching the big one today.
Listen up, guys!
Today it is not about pictures or films as it usually is on this blog. It’s is about fly fishing and fly tying, though. We bring you good stuff for… your ears. Podcasts are a weird kind of media, and I think around here… they are kind of underestimated. Continue reading “Listen up, guys!”
It’s all about the bass
There isn’t much bass fishing to be found in our neck of the woods, so to be honest, we don’t know much about bass fly fishing. Luckily we have friends that do. For this blog we’ve relied heavily on their experience. So a large thanks to all of you guys for sharing your knowledge, photos and your über cool flies with us. But first let’s look at the fish.
